Men's Basketball | 8/24/2021 10:41:00 AM

DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State Men's Basketball coach Alex Ireland has released the Roadrunners 2021-22 schedule. The schedule features 30 games in total with 11 games back in the friendly confines of Mashburn Arena. The Birds will also play four neutral site games with two each in the Life University Classic and the Talladega College Classic.

"The 21-22 season brings another formidable schedule with challenging opponents in all 30 games," said Coach Ireland. "I am excited to return to a full schedule with fans in attendance, as well as for the opportunity to test our mettle against some of the best competition in the country."

It all starts with the Blue & White Scrimmage on Tuesday, October 19 at Mashburn Arena. One-week later Dalton State will open the regular season on October 26 against Fisk (Tenn.) in their official return to Mashburn Arena after playing all home games at Bandy Gym last season.

The Life University Classic follows on October 29 and 30 where the Roadrunners will take on Thomas (Ga.) and Southeastern Baptist (Miss.). DS returns home for two games on November 2 and 4 to take on Bryan (Tenn.) and Oakwood (Ala.) before playing in the Talladega College Classic where they will meet William Woods (Mo.) and Lyon (Ark.) for the first time in program history.

Conference play opens on November 18 with an away game with Stillman (Ala.). Blue Mountain (Miss.) will visit Dalton two days later on November 20. It will be the last home game for the Birds who will not return home until January 6.

The six-game road swing will be stretched out because of finals and begins with a highly anticipated matchup with defending National Champion Shawnee State in Portsmouth, Ohio on November 27. A return date with Fisk (Tenn.) on November 30 follows with trip to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on the former Martin Methodist (Tenn.) that is newly rebranded to UT Southern on December 11.

A return to SSAC play ends 2021 as Dalton State will play at Mobile (Ala.) on December 14 and at defending conference champions Faulkner (Ala.) on December 18. A trip to Mount Vernon to take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.) starts 2022.

A tough three-game stretch awaits the Roadrunners as they finally return to Mashburn Arena when they host Loyola (La.) on January 6, William Carey (Miss.) on January 8, and new SSAC member Talladega (Ala.) on January 11. The Tornadoes join the Southern States Athletic Conference this season and replace outgoing member Florida College who left after the 2020-21 season.

The Roadrunners briefly step out of conference on January 15 when they travel to Huntsville, Ala. to matchup with Oakwood (Ala.) for the second time during the season. An afternoon affair on MLK day with Middle Georgia State in Cochran is next on January 17 before the Birds return home to host Mobile (Ala.) and Faulkner (Ala.) on January 20 and 22.

The final non-conference game of the season takes place on January 26 when Dalton State visits Carver (Ga.). Four of the next five games come on the road and starts on January 29 against Talladega (Ala.). Blue Mountain (Miss.) follows on February 3 before Stillman (Ala.) comes to Mashburn Arena on February 5.

A road trip to Loyola (La.) and William Carey (Miss.) on February 10 and 12 ends the tough stretch away from home. DS ends the regular season against Middle Georgia State and Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at home on February 17 and 19.

The Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament will once again take place at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, Ala. February 23-26. The NAIA Opening Round will occur March 11 & 12 to see who advances to Kansas City, Mo. for the NAIA Tournament March 17-22.

Coach Ireland ended saying, "Between our 18 SSAC conference games and non-conference opponents such as defending National Champion Shawnee State and Mid-South foe UT Southern, there will be plenty of exciting basketball for Roadrunner Nation to enjoy."
