#11 Roadrunners Start Season With Win Over Sewanee (Tenn.)


DALTON, Ga. – #11-ranked Dalton State kicked off their season with a 2-0 victory over Sewanee (Tenn.) in non-conference soccer action at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Justin Riescher got the scoring started when he stole a ball in a 1 v 1 opportunity and beat the Sewanee netminder for the 1-0 lead.
 
SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Connor Nixon got in on the scoring with a goal on a beautiful cross from Riescher in the 56'.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#11 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 1-0 overall with the win. For Sewanee, the match was an exhibition as NCAA DIII members are not allowed to have countable contest until September 1.
 
Justin Riescher picked up where he left off scoring the first goal of the season for the Birds and picking up an assist on another. Connor Nixon collected his first goal of the season while Michael Barrueta and Nestor Mendez combined for a shutout in goal.

UP NEXT
The #11-ranked Roadrunners will hit the road for their next two matches when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan on August 24 and UT Southern, formally Martin Methodist (Tenn.), on August 28. They will be back at Lakeshore Park on August 31 to take on Point (Ga.).
