Lady Roadrunners Drop Season Opener To Life

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Dalton State Women's Soccer team opened the 2021 season on Tuesday evening but it wasn't how they drew it up as Life (Ga.) hit a late goal to take a 2-1 victory in non-conference soccer action at Lupo Family Field in Marietta.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF

(1-0 LU) LU: Thora Hreggvidsdottir started the scoring with a goal in the 6'.

SECOND HALF

(1-1 T) DS: Megan Wilson connected with Molly Duncan on the equalizer in the 55'.
(2-1 LU) LU: Daniela Cianchini gave the Running Eagles the lead and the eventual win with a goal in the 84'.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to 0-1 overall with the loss, while Life (Ga.) improves to 1-0 overall with the win. Mattie Dollar got the start in goal and came away with 6 saves. Duncan collected a goal in her first match as a Lady Roadrunners while Wilson got her first career assist.

BY THE NUMBERS
Corner kicks were even at 4 each as were fouls at 10 a piece. The shot advantage went to Life 18-7 with an 8-3 clip on frame.

UP NEXT
The Lady Birds will return to Dalton for their home opener on Saturday, August 21 when they host The University of the South: Sewanee. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
