#18 Roadrunners Clinch SSAC Regular Season Title

DALTON, Ga. – #18 Dalton State finished out a perfect conference slate with a 3-2 win over #7 Mobile (Ala.) at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 UM) UM: Emman Rahimi converted a penalty kick on a questionable call in the box in the 24'.
  • (1-1 T) DS: The Roadrunners drew even 2 minutes later when their scoring attempt was thwarted by a hand ball in the box that setup a PK that Santiago Moore converted.
  • (2-1 DS) DS: Guilherme Franca booted in a ball that UM goalkeeper Ty Turner batted away off a free kick in the 36'.

SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 DS) DS: The Birds wasted no time scoring in the 45' when Moore hit Davinson Mera Valencia down the pitch who one timed to Jonathan Soto for the score.
  • (3-2 DS) UM: Lucas Ros hit a breakaway in the 89' to get the margin down to 1 goal.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#18 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 11-0-1 overall (6-0 SSAC) with the win, while #7 Mobile (Ala.) falls to 6-4 overall (2-2 SSAC) with the loss. Santiago Moore once again tallied 1 goal and 1 assist. Guilherme Franca and Jonathan Soto also scored with Davinson Mera Valencia picking up an assist. Kieran Hodges and Aaron Fraire combined for 5 saves in net.

BY THE NUMBERS
News came down on Friday evening of a discrepancy in the national poll that elevated the Roadrunners up one spot to #18. They will look to move further up the top 25 with two wins over top 10 teams in as many days and one more game on tap with a top opponent.

The win clinched the regular season SSAC title for Dalton State. It is the first for the program in their 6 years of existence as well as their first undefeated conference record. They have clinched the #1-seed in the SSAC Tournament and a 1st round bye. They will not play in the conference tournament until the quarterfinal round in Montgomery, Ala. on April 7.
