#6 Roadrunners Advance To SSAC Championship


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #6-ranked Dalton State got back on the pitch for the first time since March 20 and advanced to the championship match of the SSAC Tournament with a 3-0 win over #4-seed Faulkner (Ala.) at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Mongtomery, Ala. on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: A corner kick turned into a muck in front of the goal that created a loose ball opportunity for Guilherme Franca who knocked it past Cristobal Romero for a 1-goal lead in the 8'.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: SSAC Player of the Year Justin Riescher created an opportunity with a rope to the right post that Romero got a hand on but Franca was in the region again and cleaned up for his 2nd goal of the evening in the 27'.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Jared Zauner hit a chip shot in the box in the 59' that Riescher finished to put the match out of reach.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#6 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 12-0-1 overall with the win, while Faulkner (Ala.) falls to 4-10-1 overall with the loss. Guilherme France collected 2 goals with Justin Riescher getting a goal and an assist. Golden Gloves Award winner Aaron Fraire notched a 3-save shutout.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Riescher scored his 19th goal of the season as he continues to extend his single-season school record for goals. He ranks in the top-5 nationally in 7 statistical categories. Friaire got his 4th clean sheet on the season in net.
 
DS held the advantage in overall shots at 17-9 and in shots on goal at 10-3. Corner kicks also,went to the Roadrunners 4-0.

UP NEXT
#6 Dalton State will play for the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament championship on Friday, April 9 against #7 William Carey (Miss.). Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CT) in Montgomery, Ala.
