Birds Improve To 6-0-1 With 3-1 Victory Over Thomas (Ga.)


THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Roadrunners stayed unbeaten finishing off a two-game road swing with a 3-1 win over Thomas (Ga.) in non-conference soccer action at TU Soccer Complex in Thomasville on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Guilherme Franca added his second goal in as many games with a quick score in the 2'.
  • (1-1 T) TU: Thomas attacked right after kickoff and hit the equalizer in the 3' when Mateo Arbelaez beat Aaron Fraire on a double assist from Diego Azar and Jojo Lescher
  • (2-1 DS) DS: The Roadrunners regained the lead in the 18' when Santiago Moore found Zachary Perry.
SECOND HALF
  • (3-1 DS) DS: Justin Reischer added to his SSAC leading total with a goal in the 70' to ice the game for the Birds.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to 6-0-1 overall (1-0 SSAC) with the win, while Thomas (Ga.) falls to 0-3 overall with the loss. Guilherme Franca took two shots total in the two road games and each one found the back of the net.
 
Zachary Perry also added scored for the second straight contest as did Justin Riescher. Riescher leads the SSAC with 10 scores on the season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The Dalton State defense continued to set up allowing just 4 shots total and 2 on point. In contrast, the Birds took 13 shots with 7 coming on goal. DS also outshot the Nighthawks from the corner 8-1.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will be back on the pitch at Lakeshore Park on Saturday, February 27 when they host Faulkner (Ala.). Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
