Falcons Take Second Game Of Weekend Series Against Roadrunners


DALTON, Ga. – A neck and neck game was broken open by Jalen Perry toward the middle of the second half as Florida College leaves Dalton with a 65-61 win over the Roadrunners in SSAC action at Bandy Gym on Saturday evening.  
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Jalen Perry established himself early with a made 3 giving FC an early 6-2 run.
  • Bora Certel quickly struck back with a 3 to bring DS to an 8-7 lead. 
  • With most of the first half being a neck and neck score, Marquel Wiggins hits a 3 with an assist from C.J. Perry to give the Roadrunners a 7-point advantage with a score of 22-15.  
  • Falcons attempt to creep back up with a made basket by DJ Doakes making them only trail the Birds by 4.  
  • For the rest of the half the score stayed the same going into the locker room with DS leading FC 25-21.  
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • Aaron Burress scored 23 seconds in to the second half to bring the Roadrunners to a 6-point lead but is fouled and finishes with a 3-point play.  
  • C.J. Perry brought DS to a 7-point advantage by hitting a 3 pointer at the 16:18 mark to make it a 33-26 game. 
  • Burress hits a basket at the 14:59 mark to put DS back up by 7, then Jalen Perry goes wild scoring 8 of Florida College's 11 points in an 11-3 run to give them a 39-38 lead.  
  • The game stayed within the Roadrunners reach as the battled to take the lead, they would do so on 2 Aaron Burress free throws to give them the 55-54 lead. 
  • Falcon's Ladarron Cleveland make 2 free throws to bring FC to give them a 6-point advantage with only 2:18 remaining in the game.   
  • Unfortunately, the Roadrunners did not overcome Jalen Perry and the Falcons as he hit 2 free throws with only 9 seconds left to give a 65-61 win over DS. 
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (7-9 overall, 6-5 SSAC) with the loss, while Florida College improves to (14-12 overall, 4-9 SSAC) with the win. Three Roadrunners scored in double-figures led by Marquel Wiggins with 20 points and 4 rebounds. Aaron Burress finished with 16 points and 7 boards.
 
Bora Certel added 6 points and 3 assists, with C.J. Perry going 3-of-8 from distance with 15 points. Certel and Perry both pulled down 3 rebounds.
 
Jalen Perry led Florida College with 34 points and 7 rebounds. Perry hit 6 of FC's 10 threes. Sam Brown had 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Ladarron Cleveland added 7 points and 7 assists of his own.

BY THE NUMBERS
After a 25-21 first half lead for Dalton State, the Falcons outscored the Roadrunners 44-36 in the second half. FC was 50% (15-for-30) from the field overall and 45.45% (5-of-11) from distance compared to 45.16% (14-for-31) and 25% (3-of-12) for the Birds. 
 
Dalton State won the battle of the boards 39-32. Florida College held the advantage in points in the paint (16-10) and points off turnovers (12-7). Bench points went in favor of the Roadrunners (22-10). 

UP NEXT
Dalton State will hit the hardwood again on Monday, February 15 when they travel to Montgomery, Ala.to make up a previously postponed game with Faulkner (Ala.). Tipoff at Tine Davis Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
 
Seating capacity at Bandy Gym remains at 20% and is limited to family members and guest of participating Dalton State student-athletes and coaches. No tickets are allotted for sale to the general public.
