#14 Birds Lose Heartbreaker To #12 William Carey (Miss.)


DALTON, Ga. – #14-ranked Dalton State scored the first goal but couldn't hold on as #12 William Carey (Miss.) hit a goal in overtime to take a 2-1 win over the Roadrunners and advance to the finals of the SSAC Soccer Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Logan Vidal got goal number one of his Dalton State career in the 27' for the 1-0 Roadrunner lead.
SECOND HALF
  • (1-1 T) WC: Reece Harrison tied the match in the 69' on an assist from Caoimhan McConnell.
  • (2-1 WC) WC: Juan Ruiz Cabello got the golden goal in the 94' with McConnell getting his second assist.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (12-5-1 overall) with the loss, while #12 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (14-3 overall) with the win. Logan Vidal got his first goal of the season to get the Birds on the board first. Michael Barrueta was tough in goal with 7 saves as he saw a lot of shots head his way.
 
Carey held a decisive shot advantage at 22-6 including 10-1 on frame. The Crusaders did not record a save as the only shot on goal for the Roadrunners hit the net.

#14 Dalton State will continue on to the NAIA Tournament that begins on November 18 and runs through November 20. They will find out their destination on Monday during the NAIA Selection Show live on Facebook at 11:00 a.m. (CT).
