Smotherman's Big Night Leads Lady Roadrunners To Victory Over Blue Mountain (Miss.)


DALTON, Ga. – It was a big night for Brianna Smotherman as her seven-point night led Dalton State to a 6-0 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) in SSAC soccer action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex in Dalton on Thursday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: It was a quick start for the Lady Roadrunners as Nicole Perez passed off to Brianna Smotherman for the first goal in the 4'.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Perez and Smotherman hooked up again in the 15' with Perez getting the goal and Smotherman the assist.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: The third scoring strike for the Lady Birds came in the 19' when Jailyne Martinez
 
SECOND HALF
  • (4-0 DS) DS: It was goal number two for Smotherman in the 48' when her and Ava Van Doren combined to put the goal tally at four.
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Van Doren raced down the pitch less than a minute later to get a goal of her own in the 49'.
  • (6-0 DS) DS: Smotherman capped off a hat trick in the 57' when she collected a trice rebounded ball for the sixth DS goal of the day.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (6-6 overall, 2-1 SSAC) with the win, while Blue Mountain (Miss.) falls to (4-6 overall, 0-3 SSAC) with the loss. Brianna Smotherman had three goals and one assist, while Nicole Perez, Jailyne Martinez, and Ava Van Doren each added goals. Van Doren and Perez also had assists.

UP NEXT
The Lady Birds will be back on the pitch at Lakeshore Park on Saturday, October 9 when they take on Talladega (Ala.). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
