Lady Birds Sow Up #4-Seed In Conference Tournament With Win At Faulkner


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Lady Roadrunners clinched the #4-seed in the upcoming SSAC Women's Soccer Tournament and a home quarterfinal matchup with Mobile (Ala.) with a 3-0 win over Faulkner (Ala.) at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium in Montgomery, Ala. on Thursday.

  • (1-0 DS) DS: Ava Van Doren her first goal of the night in the 54' for a 1-0 Lady Roadrunner lead.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Van Doren struck again in the 70' for her second goal of the half and a 2-0 DS lead.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Brianna Smotherman and Guadalupe Martinez put the match away when Martinez found Smotherman for the final score in the 86'.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (8-8 overall, 3-3 SSAC) with the win, while Faulkner (Ala.) falls to (4-11-1 overall, 2-4 SSAC) with the loss. Van Doren tied Molly Duncan for 2nd on the season scoring list with 6 goals, while Smotherman hit double-digits with her 10th.
 
The Birds outshot the Eagles 17-14 overall and 10-5 on goal. Brooke Alvarez recorded another clean sheet with the 5-save shutout.

The Lady Birds will finish up the regular season on Sunday with a makeup match with Talladega (Ala.). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
