Lady Roadrunners Finish Regular Season Wtih An Offensive Explosion


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State ended the regular season with an offensive explosion as they defeated SSAC foe Talladega (Ala.) 11-0 in a makeup match from October 9 at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on Sunday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: The rout began in the 8' with Brianna Smotherman getting her first goal of the match with an assist from Guadalupe Martinez.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Ava Van Doren made a couple of good moves then booted in into the net in the 17'.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Van Doren and Smotherman connected in the 21' with Smotherman getting her second goal of the day.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: Van Doren again made some sweet moves in the middle and fired it home in the 34' for a four-goal lead.
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Freshmen Molly Duncan and Kylie Pritchett hooked up in the 36' for a 5-0 Dalton State lead.
  • (6-0 DS) DS: Van Doren completed the Hat Trick in the 44'.
SECOND HALF
  • (7-0 DS) DS: Two more freshmen teamed up for a goal in the 46' as Isabella Weigle scored on an assist from Jailyne Martinez.
  • (8-0 DS) DS: It was another scoring strike from Smotherman with an assist from Van Doren in the 49'.
  • (9-0 DS) DS: Jailyne Martinez go a goal of her own in the 51' when Sarah Morris found her in the box.
  • (10-0 DS) DS: Smotherman was again assisted by Van Doren on the 10th goal of the afternoon in the 63'.
  • (11-0 DS) DS: The last goal of the afternoon came in the 69' when Andrea Soto Calderon found Smotherman for her 5th goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (9-8 overall, 4-3 SSAC) with the win, while Talladege (Ala.) falls to (4-11-2 overall, 0-7 SSAC) with the loss. Brianna Smotherman netted 5 goals on the afternoon and tied for the conference lead with 15. Ava Van Doren had a hat trick of her own with 3 goals and 3 assists. She has 5 goals in her last two matches.
 
Isabella Weigle, Jailyne Martinez, and Molly Duncan also scored on a day where the Lady Roadrunners outshot the Lady Tornadoes 33-1 overall and 17-0 on goal. Guadalupe Martinez, Kylie Pritchett, Andrea Soto Calderon, and Sarah Morris also assisted on goals.

UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will host Mobile (Ala.) in the quarterfinal round of the SSAC Tournament on Wednesday, November 3. Kickoff at Lakeshore Park is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
