Roadrunners Drop Backend Of Doubleheader With Florida College


TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – The second night of a doubleheader with Florida College was not as good as the first with the Falcons taking control early and cruising to a 78-60 win over the Roadrunners at Conn Gymnasium in Temple Terrace, Fla. on Saturday evening.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • Florida College jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead with 11:33 left in the first half.
  • The Birds hit a 7-2 spurt to close the gap to two points at 14-12 with 8:08 remaining.
  • The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to take command at 22-12 at the 6:50 mark.
  • An A.J. Hassell basket with 2:03 to go cut the deficit to 4 points (24-20), but 9-0 run followed from Florida College to close the half as they carried a 33-20 lead into the break.
THE SECOND HALF
  • The FC lead remained in double-digits until the Birds cut into it with 5-straight to make the score 36-30 with 16:49 left in regulation.
  • Another run from the Falcons boosted them back to a double-digit lead that stayed above 8 for most of the half.
  • DS battled hard and got it down to 5 points at the 8:19 mark after two Aleksandar Pantelic free throws.
  • The Falcon lead stabilized between 5-8 and touched 5 again twice more before FC pulled it back into double-digits where Dalton State could not recover.
  • Florida College pulled away in the last three minutes with a barrage of three pointers to take a 78-60 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (3-6 overall, 3-2 SSAC) with the loss, while Florida College improves to (10-4 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win. Only two players were in double-figures for the Roadrunners with Marquel Wiggins pacing with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
 
C.J. Perry hit three treys and added 13 points. Igor Stokic and Aaron Burress pulled down 8 and 7 boards respectively.

Bryan Chong led the Falcons with 21 points hitting 7 shots from behind the arc. Matt Simpson had another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Jalon Perry added 14 points.

BY THE NUMBERS
The Roadrunners once again had a slow start going 8-for-30 (26.67%) in the first half. They were far more efficient in the second half going 14-for-30 (46.67%) but Florida College was just as good in the second half going 14-for-34 (41.18%) and 10-for-25 (40%) from distance.
 
FC held the advantage on the glass, 48-40, with DS taking points in the paint, 30-22. Bench points went to the Falcons as well, 37-26.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will be back at home on Tuesday, January 19 when they take on Voorhees (S.C.) in non-conference action. Tipoff at Bandy Gym is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
