(RV) Dalton State Falls On The Road To #16 Faulkner


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – (RV) Dalton State got off to a promising start but went cold in the first half and never recovered as #16 Faulkner (Ala.) held home turf for a 75-53 win over the Roadrunners at Tine Davis Gymnasium in Montgomery, Ala. on Tuesday night.
 
THE FIRST HALF
  • The start was positive for the Roadrunners as they held a 9-8 advantage after a Marquel Wiggins bucket at the 12:26 mark.
  • Faulkner followed with a 15-2 run that lasted just over 5 minutes and gave them a 23-11 lead with 7:19 to go in the half.
  • A Garrett Sanderson 3-pointer with 2:56 left gave the Eagles a 16-point lead (34-18).
  • C.J. Williamson hit a basket to increase the lead to 18 points, but Wiggins matched him on the other end to keep the lead at 16 points (38-22) for Faulkner at the half.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • Trace Hill hit a trey just 8 seconds into the second half to extend the lead to 19 points.
  • The lead grew to 24 points with 16:10 remaining in regulation after an Austin Rogers basket.
  • DS stayed in the game and kept trying to slice into the Eagle advantage getting it down to 15 points at 62-47 with 3:46 left to play.
  • That is where the Birds ran out of gas as Faulkner countered with an 11-1 run to put the game away for good and a 75-53 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
(RV) Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (2-5 overall, 2-1 SSAC) with the loss, while #16 Faulkner (Ala.) improves to (10-1 overall, 1-0 SSAC) with the win. Marquel Wiggins paced the Birds with 17 points. C.J. Perry hit two of the Roadrunners three shots from distance to add 13 points, while Antares was solid as ever with 10 points and 7 boards.
 
C.J. Williamson (23) and Garrett Sanderson (20) accounted for 43 of the Eagles 75 points on the evening. C.J. Hines was also in double-figures with 11 points and he and Sanderson combined to connect on 9-of-13 triples for Faulkner.

BY THE NUMBERS
Their appeared to be an invisible lid on the rim for Dalton State as they struggled to convert from the field as they connected on only 18-of-61 shots for a 29.5% clip. From a percentage standpoint, it was the worst shooting performance for the Roadrunners since they shot 32.7% (18-for-55) in a 71-70 loss to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on February, 15, 2020 and the first time below 30% overall from the field in almost two years when they shot 25.6% (20-for-78) against Loyola (La.) on February, 21, 2019.
 
While the Eagles did their damage from the outside, the Roadrunners took the paint, 26-18. Points off turnovers belonged to Faulkner, 12-3, as did second chance points, 11-7. The rebounding edge also went to the Eagles, 45-39.
 
UP NEXT
(RV) Dalton State will be on the road on Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16 when they travel to Temple Terrace, Fla. to take on Florida College. Tipoff at Conn Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday
