#3 Roadrunners Get School-Record For Consecutive Wins With Victory Over (RV) Bethel (Tenn.)

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The 2019-20 Roadrunners now have the school-record for most consecutive wins in program history, picking up their 16th straight victory in a 107-101 OT win over (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) in Southern States Athletic Conference action at Crisp Arena in McKenzie, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • Bethel held a slim advantage in the early going until back-to-back buckets from C.J. Perry and Rodley Adjei gave Dalton State the lead (18-13) with 14:30 left in the half
  • The lead for the Roadrunners grew to 10 points (28-18) just past the halfway mark of the period.
  • DS kept the lead in the 7-10 point range until 4:07 to go when the Wildcats started an 11-2 run to take a 41-40 lead.
  • Kevon Tucker and Sean Cranney provided the final two buckets of the period to send Dalton State into the half up by three (46-43).

THE SECOND HALF
  • Dalton State opened the second half outscoring Bethel 10-6 to take a seven-point lead (56-49).
  • The Roadrunners continued to hold the lead until the Wildcats hit a 13-4 spurt just shy of the 10-minute mark to take the lead (74-72).
  • It remained a tight game with Bethel continuing to hold a slim lead, but Dalton State managed to tie it up on several occasions.
  • Bethel looked as if they were going to complete the upset after Javonte Ellis hit a fastbreak bucket with 1:38 to go to put the Wildcats up by eight (89-81).
  • DS worked quick with Perry getting a basket on the next trip down court to cut the deficit to six.
  • On the inbound pass, Kevon Tucker went for the steal and bounced it off a Bethel player to get the ball back.
  • Tucker then drove to the hole when play resumed only to miss, but Aaron Burress was there to clean it up and put it back, drawing a foul. He hit the free throw to make it a three-point game.
  • Playing for a defensive stop, the Birds committed a foul on Jarred Walker with 36 seconds to go that sent him to the line. Walker hit 1-of-2 to make it a four-point game (90-86).
  • Looking to score quick, DS got the ball inside to Burress who converted to cut the lead to two.
  • With 14 seconds on the clock, the Roadrunners fouled Javonte Ellis and sent him to the charity stripe. He too only hit 1-of-2 to make it a three-point game.
  • Looking for the equalizer, DS came down court. Cranney spied the defense looking for the open man and found him in Perry. Perry set up and drilled the tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime.

OVERTIME
  • It was all Dalton State early in the overtime period as they scored the first 10 points to take a 101-91 lead.
  • The Birds never looked back even as Bethel tried to lengthen the game with fouls.
