#3 Roadrunners Improve To 24-1 With Road Win Over Fisk (Tenn.)


NASHVILLE, Tenn. - #3 Dalton State added to their win streak collecting their 17th in-a-row with an 83-75 win over Fisk (Tenn.) in non-conference action in Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • It was a close contest early with the Roadrunners barely able to pull out a four-point lead in the first four minutes of play.
  • The score stayed tight as Fisk tied the game at 15-15 just shy of the 13-minute mark.
  • A mini run led by Rodley Adjei drew the lead out to seven (29-22) with 7:36 left in the half.
  • Fisk worked to close the gap and took the lead (36-34) with 1:56 remaining, but Dalton State got a bucket from Adjei and a timely three-pointer from Kevon Tucker to close the half and go into the break up by two (39-37).
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • The status quo remained as the second half began with both teams jockeying for momentum, but the Roadrunners were the first to take advantage with an 11-2 run to take a nine-point lead (52-43) just past the five-minute mark.
  • Fisk cut the lead down, but DS battled back and got the lead into double-digits (62-52) on another trey from Tucker with 10:52 remaining.
  • Dalton State kept the lead in the 7-10 point range until the Bulldogs mounted an attack with under five minutes left in the game.
  • A 10-3 run from Fisk cut the lead to two points (73-71) with 2:56 to play, but the Roadrunners iced the game from the charity stripe converting eight of their final 10 shots down the stretch for the 83-75 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#3 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (24-1 overall, 12-1 SSAC) with the win, while Fisk (Tenn.) falls to (7-23 overall) with the loss. Rodley Adjei led the Birds with 25 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Kevon Tucker flanked him with 22 points and five boards.
 
C.J. Perry added 16 points and four rebounds, while Dauson Womack completed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Marcus Sommerville led Fisk with 21 points. Addison Miller had 18 points and six rebounds, with Brandon Odell (15) and Baron Goodbridge (14) also scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs. Odell added eight boards to his stat line as well.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The Roadrunners crashed the boards to the tune of a 45-34 advantage. They also won the paint (40-30), but Fisk ran the fastbreak effectively outscoring the Birds (23-6). Point off turnovers also went to the Bulldogs (18-6)
 
Dalton State shot well from the field at a 47.6% (30-for-63) clip, while holding Fisk to 38.6 % (27-for-70). They also managed to hold the Bulldogs 24% (6-for-25) from behind the arc.
 
UP NEXT
#3 Dalton State will be back at home for a final three-game homestand beginning Saturday, February 15 with an SSAC matchup against Martin Methodist (Tenn.). Tip-Off at Mashburn Arena is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
