#3 Roadrunners Fall To RedHawks; 17-Game Win Streak Snapped

DALTON, Ga. – It was a rough day from the floor for #3 Dalton State as they saw their 17-game winning streak snapped by Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in a 71-70 defeat to the RedHawks in SSAC action at Mashburn Arena on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • It was a good start for the Roadrunners who jumped out to an early 14-8 lead just past the five minute mark.
  • Martin Methodist kept it close and battled back to take the lead (20-18) after an Aaron Shamby three with 9:21 to go in the half.
  • Baskets were hard to come by the rest of the half with both squads playing good defense.
  • The RedHawks extended the lead to eight points briefly before carrying a six-point lead (32-26) into the half.

THE SECOND HALF
  • Dauson Womack asserted his presence as the second half began with eight-straight points that saw the Birds take a 34-32 lead.
  • A quick 6-0 spurt by MMC with the game tied at 35-35 saw them take control of the half, but DS stayed right on their heels.
  • Down seven, the Roadrunners got consecutive treys from Kevon Tucker and C.J. Perry to get the score in striking distance.
  • With 15 ticks on the clock Randy Bell tried to get to the basket to tie the game and draw a foul. Neither happened as Martin Methodist came away with the ball.
  • Forced to foul, the RedHawks went to the line and knocked down 1-of-2 to put the game out of reach.
