#5 Roadrunners Bounce Back With Big Win Over Florida College


DALTON, Ga. – #5 Dalton State bounced back from their second loss of the season in a big way, defeating Florida College 101-77 in Southern States Athletic Conference action at Mashburn Arena on Thursday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • The Birds started out hot turning the Falcons over on their first two possessions and getting fast break points.
  • They parlayed the quick start into a 15-2 run to take a 25-10 lead just shy of the midway point of the first half.
  • They continued to strike, building a 20-point lead (48-28) with 4:48 remaining in the half and carried a 56-38 advantage into the half.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • It was much of the same as the second period began with Dalton State running Florida College up-and-down the court.
  • By the 15:23 mark, DS extended the lead to 22 points (68-46).
  • The lead grew to as many as 31 points (93-62) before the Roadrunners finished the Falcons off with a 101-77 victory.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#5 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (25-2 overall, 13-2 SSAC) with the win, while Florida College falls to (12-15 overall, 4-11 SSAC) with the loss. Aaron Burress and Kevon Tucker led Dalton State with 19 points each. C.J Perry had 16 with five three pointers, while Randy Bell added a 15 point, 10 rebound double-double. Dauson Womack was the last Roadrunner in double-figures with 12 points.
 
Matt Simpson, the leading scorer in the SSAC, led the Falcons with 17 points. Ethan Smith contributed 15 points, while Jordan Grayson (11) and Stefan Nakic-Voljnovic (10) also scored in double-figures.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
Dalton State edged Florida on the boards (39-36) and got to work in the paint with a 42-34 advantage. The Birds also doubled up the Falcons in second chance points (20-10) and turned 15 FC turnovers into 22 points.
 
Defensively, the Falcons were held to 37.1% (26-for-70) from the field. In contrast, the Roadrunners shot 49.3% (35-for-71) and at one point were above 60% in the first half. From the charity stripe, FC went 18-for-24 (75%), while DS hit at a 66.7% (22-for-33) clip.
 
UP NEXT
#5 Dalton State will finish the home season on Saturday, February 22 when they host Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at Mashburn Arena on Senior Day. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
