Birds Get Revenge On RedHawks With 6-2 Win

DALTON, Ga. – The Roadrunners got revenge on the team that ended their hopes of an SSAC title one-year ago, erupting in the second half to defeat Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 6-2 in non-conference soccer action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • SCORELESS FIRST HALF

  • (1-0) DS: Santiago Moore bent a free kick from 30 yards out to kickoff a busy second period.
  • (1-1) T: A Mario Lopez corner kick found Reece Ashurst who headed in the equalizer.
  • (2-1) DS: Frank Rodriguez knocked in a header to give the Birds back the lead.
  • (3-1) DS: A little more than a minute later, Kevin Villatoro found Justin Riescher to extend the lead.
  • (4-1) DS: Blaz Elizondo hit a sweet corner kick that found the noggin of Guilherme Franca who put it home.
  • (5-1) DS: Noah Thomas made up for a missed opportunity earlier with a goal of his own in the 72' to extend the lead further.
  • (5-2) MMC: Jonas Arcalean took advantage of a hand ball in the box and finished off a PK.
  • (6-2) DS: Moore used some patience and found Riescher for his second goal of the day.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to (3-0 overall) with the win, while Martin Methodist (Tenn.) falls to (0-1 overall) with the loss.
 
The Birds exploded for six second half goals after a scoreless first half. Justin Riescher added two more scores to his total and now has six on the season. It is the third two-score match of the season for Riescher. Aaron Friare added four saves in net.
 
UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will be in action again on Saturday, November 14 when they will be the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team as both squads take on Cumberlands (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
