#18 Roadrunners Get 28 From Adjei, But Drop Season Opener To Lindsey Wilson


COLUMBIA, Ky. – #18 Dalton State had three players score in double-figures including 28 from Rodley Adjei, but it was not enough as Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) protected home court with an 81-78 win at Biggers Sports Center in Columbia, Ky. on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • The first points went to the Blue Raiders, but Dalton State quickly answered by tying it up at six all with 17 minutes left in the half.
  • The lead continued to swap hands as Lindsey Wilson held a slim one-point advantage (18-17) at the midway mark of the period.
  • With five minutes remaining LWC held a seven-point lead thanks to back-to-back buckets from Elijah Jordan and Josh Smith.
  • DS cut the deficit to three points several times as the half wound down, but the Blue Raiders answered and took a five-point lead (37-32) into the break.
THE SECOND HALF
  • Lindsey Wilson continued to hold the lead as play began in the second half with the Roadrunners not getting closer than two points.
  • A four-point play from Rodley Adjei at the 12:32 mark cut the lead to one at 53-52.
  • The margin remained there until the Blue Raiders stepped on the gas pedal with a 13-3 run to stretch out an 11-point lead (67-56).
  • Six-straight points from Igor Stokic and a bucket from Marquel Wiggins trimmed the Blue Raider lead to five (69-64) with 6:29 on the clock.
  • Dalton State continued to work and broke even on an Antares Gwyn basket with 23 ticks left.
  • It would be too much time as Lindsey Wilson setup for the final shot which Colen Gaynor converted with a foul with less than a second remaining.
  • Gaynor hit the free throw to give the Blue Raiders an 81-78 win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
#18 Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (0-1 overall) with the loss, while Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) improves to (3-2 overall) with the win. Three Roadrunners scored in double-figures led by Rodley Adjei with 28 points and 3 rebounds. Marquel Wiggins had 18 and 5 boards, while Antares Gwyn was one rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
 
Colen Gaynor paced the Blue Raiders with 26 points and 9 rebounds. Elijah Jordan added 16 points and 5 rebounds, with Payton Cundiff nailing three treys and contributing 15 points.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The game was fairly even from a statistical standpoint. Both teams had three players in double-figures, with Lindsey Wilson holding a slim two-point advantage in the paint at 46-44. As predicted, the Roadrunners crashed the boards and boxed out well holding a 35-29 advantage on the glass.
 
Lindsey Wilson was more efficient from the field in the first half going 16-for-32 (50%), while Dalton State was better in the second period at 66.67% (16-for-24). The Roadrunners did not take many three balls (10 in all) but hit 40%. The Blue Raiders took 23 shots from distance and only connected on 5 for a 21.7% clip.

#18 Dalton State will be back on the hardwood again on Saturday, December 12 when they tangle with Reinhardt (Ga.). Tipoff at Bandy Gym is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
