Patriots Take Advantage Early To Defeat Dalton State

DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton State Women's Soccer team fell back to .500 on the season with a 3-0 loss to University of the Cumberland's (Ky.) in non-conference action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex on Saturday.

THE FIRST HALF
It was a great for the Lady Roadrunners as the defense held the Patriots scoreless for the first 25 minutes. Cumberland's got on the board in the 26' when a free kick led to a scramble in front of the net. Shara Randaz would win the battle, booting the ball over the head of Brooke Alvarez for a 1-0 lead for the Patriots.

The Patriots picked up their second goal in the 37' when Jillian Zurborg received a pass in the box and knocked it back to Randaz who finished for the second goal and a 2-0 Patriot lead. The Lady Roadrunners got a great opportunity to cut into the lead right before the half, but a Heather Allen kick sailed right to Patriot goalkeeper Laura Vogt. At the half, the score remained 2-0 in favor of Cumberlands.

THE SECOND HALF
Defense was the name of the game on both sides in the second half. The Lady Birds show how tough they can be and how well they scouted the opponent. Alvarez played another fabulous game in goal as the last Patriot goal came in the 86' on a PK after a foul in the box. As the clock sounded, the Patriots came away with a 3-0 win over the Lady Roadrunners.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to 3-3 with the loss, while Cumberlands (Ky.) improves to 2-0 with the win. Shara Randaz collected a hat trick for the Patriots. Brooke Alvarez one again had a great game in net with 8 saves.

Cumberlands narrowly outshot Dalton State 6-4 in the first half, but took an 11-0 advantage in the second period. The Patriots put 12 out of 17 shots on frame, while all four of the Lady Roadrunners shots were on goal.
