Men's Soccer Pitches Second Straight Shutout With Win Over Truett-McConnell

DALTON, Ga. – After a season opening loss to Tennessee Wesleyan, the Dalton State Men's Soccer team have pitched two-straight shutouts with the latest coming on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) in the final match of the RU Invitational at Ken White Field at University Stadium in Waleska.

THE FIRST HALF
It took some time for both squads to get going offensively with the first shot on goal coming 12 minutes into the contest. It was the Roadrunners with the first opportunity with Amin Saheb Ettabaa getting a good look only to be denied by Evan Gaffney.

Truett-McConnell got the next crack on goal with Luca Brugmann getting a shot on Roadrunner freshman Aaron Fraire. Fraire was up to the task stopping the shot.

Ettabaa and Santiago Moore had chances in the 19' and 22' respectively, but Ettabaa's shot went wide while Moore's was saved by Gaffney. The Bears turned the save by Gaffney into a scoring look, but Brugmann was once again stopped by Fraire.

The breakthrough came after a yellow card on Dylan McKendry when Zachary Perry found the back of the net in the 27' for a 1-0 lead. The Bears quickly tried to hit the equalizer only to have a shot fly wide and another saved by Fraire.

The missed chances led to a scoring shot that the Roadrunners took advantage of in the 34' as Justin Riescher found Frank Herrera who did the rest for a 2-0 lead. The DS defense locked down the rest of the period to go into the half up two scores.

THE SECOND HALF
Each team had their chances in the first 15 minutes of the second half. First, Ivan Serubiri and Javier Rodriguez had a shots go wide for the Bears, while Riescher and Moore had theirs saved by Gaffney.

Still, the Birds kept pressing. Their persistence paid off in the 60' as Ettabaa got the better of Gaffney with a shot that rocketed into the net to extend the lead to three.

Late into the match the Bears would get good looks at goal. One shot from McKendry came especially close as it clanged off the post in the 74'. Two more shots traveled wide and another was stopped by Fraire. It would not be enough as the Roadrunners posted their second consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory.
