Roadrunners Extend Winning Streak To Three With 2-1 Overtime Victory At Bryan

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Dalton State Men's Soccer team continues to gel after a season opening loss, this time getting a 2-1 (OT) road victory against Bryan (Tenn.) at BC Soccer Field in Athens, Tenn. on Wednesday. The win is the Roadrunners third-straight and avenges a 6-0 loss to the Lions on the same field last season.

THE FIRST HALF
Dalton State came out very aggressive early getting the first six shots of the match within an eight-minute stretch. It wasn't until the 17' mark that Bryan made an attempt on Aaron Fraire.

Three Santiago Moore corner kicks started the Roadrunner attack. A Noah Thomas shot off the first corner was blocked by Michael Torner. The second found Fredrik Ackander who booted it at net with Easton Hartman coming up with the save. The third went to Tom Bentham and was again saved Hartman. The rebound went to Ackander, but his shot traveled high.

Bentham and Thomas each got another crack at Hartman in the 4' and 7' minute respectively, but Hartman saved both attempts. Finally, Bryan got their turn. A shot by Aaron Attree went high, while another opportunity by Haaris Hussain was saved by Fraire.

The game pace changed to a back-and-forth affair as each team traded offensive opportunities. Justin Riescher had a shot go high for the Roadrunners, while Frank Herrera and Zachary Perry had their chances blocked by the Lion defense.

For Bryan, Brad Spooner had one shot go wide and another blocked by Ackander before it reached the goal. As the half came to a close, Moore and Ackander each had shots saved by Eastman. Fraire was equally as tough in net, stopping Jonathan Ricketts with under five minutes left. At the end of the period, the score remained tied at 0-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The Lions stormed out of the half looking to put the first point on the board. Fraire once again came up big with a save on a Ricketts attempt two minutes in. DS found it tough trying to get a ball through the Bryan defense as Riescher and Kevin Villatoro both had shots blocked.

The blocked shots turned the momentum to the Lions who mounted an attack and came away with the first goal off the boot of Ricketts in the 54' for a 1-0 lead. Fired up, the Roadrunners increased the intensity on the pitch looking to tie the match. They controlled the pace but continued to find it difficult to get a ball past Eastman.

Finally, in the 69' Dalton State struck gold as Zachary Perry headed in a goal to tie the match at 1-1. Bryan followed with a five-minute attack looking to retake the lead. Fraire and the Roadrunner D was up to the task as the Bird netminder collected two saves and Ackander blocked another attempt.

DS got the last attack in regulation with Noah Thomas running wild on the Lion defense. Unfortunately, he had one shot blocked, one high, and another go wide. Time ticked down to zero as the score remained tied 1-1 and the match headed to overtime.

OVERTIME
BC tried to get the first crack, but Hussain was called for offside a little more than a minute in. The Roadrunners gained the momentum midway through overtime and went on the attack. With 4:53 left, Amin Saheb Ettabaa found Riescher for the Golden Goal and the 2-1 victory.
