#19 Roadrunners Boat Race Life For 11th Win


DALTON, Ga. – #19 Dalton State moved to 11-1 on the season with an 84-54 blowout win over (RV) Life (Ga.) at Mashburn Arena in Dalton on Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • The Running Eagles caught fire early and jumped out to an 11-4 lead with 16:21 left.
  • Dalton State flipped the script and answered with a 16-0 run to take a nine-point lead just shy of the midway point of the half.
  • The Roadrunner lead hit double-digits for the first time at the 8:01 mark after Randy Bell hit a layup to make it 27-17.
  • Two Timothy Green free throws grew the lead to 14 points right before the half, but Cam Horton answered back with a bucket to make the lead twelve at the half, 42-30.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • DS continued to hold a double-digit lead throughout the second half quickly getting it to 15 points under a minute into the period.
  • A trey from Jordan Hernandez cut the deficit to 10 for Life, but two-straight layups from Aaron Burress stretched the lead back out to 14 at 51-37 with 15:34 remaining in regulation.
  • Gradually, the lead grew as Dauson Womack hit a bucket in the paint to increase the lead to 18 with 9:48 on the clock.
  • An Igor Stokic shot from deep put the lead at 20, 67-47, with just under eight minutes to go.
  • Heath Phillips hit a trey with 2:44 remaining to get the lead to 30 points at 82-52.
  • Two Bell free throws were matched by a Justin Wallace shot in the paint to make the final score 84-54.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
#19 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (11-1 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win, while (RV) Life (Ga.) falls to (9-6 overall, 0-2 MSC) with the loss. Randy Bell led the Birds with a huge double-double of 27 points and 13 boards, adding six assists. Sophomore Igor Stokic went 5-of-8 from the field to add 13 points.
 
Aaron Burress had 11 points and four rebounds, while Dauson Womack and Timothy Green added 10 points apiece. Womack and Green combined for four rebounds with Womack also picking up two steals.
 
Life had three players score in double-figures, paced by Jordan Hernandez with 13 points. Cam Horton had 12 points, while Jeremy Joiner barely missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The Roadrunners won the rebounding battle 38-25 and dominated points in the paint, 46-14. They also outscored the Running Eagles in bench points, 26-14, and points off turnovers, 15-14.
 
UP NEXT
#19 Dalton State will hit the road for two Southern States Athletic Conference contest to open the New Year beginning on Thursday, January 2 at Florida College. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
