Tuckers' 31 Points Pace #19 Roadrunners In Road Win At (RV) Life (Ga.)


MARIETTA, Ga. – #19 Dalton State picked up another strong early season road win by defeating (RV) Life (Ga.) 71-61 in non-conference action at The Eagles' Nest in Marietta on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
THE FIRST HALF
  • It was a low scoring affair early with the Roadrunners carrying a 12-6 lead just shy of the midway point of the first half.
  • The Eagles worked back with eight-straight to take a 14-12 lead at the 9:43 mark.
  • Dalton State caught their stride shortly after taking a tie ballgame (17-17) and turning it into an 11-point lead over a four-minute stretch.
  • Life only managed to cut the lead briefly before two Randy Bell free throws closed the half and a 10-point DS lead at 34-24.
 
THE SECOND HALF
  • LU opened the half with a bucket, but the Roadrunners countered with a 12-4 run to open the lead to 18 points at 46-28 with 16:37 on the clock.
  • The advantage grew to 20 at 50-30 with 13:46 remaining after a C.J. Perry basket.
  • A swift 11-0 spurt from the Eagles cut the lead to nine points with a little over 10 minutes to play in the game.
  • The Roadrunners punched back and 6:01 to go Kevon Tucker found Timothy Green in the lane for two points to get the lead back to 15, 62-47.
  • Life continued to hang around and cut the lead down to seven, 66-59, with 1:51 remaining.
  • Bell closed the game out going 3-for-4 from the line and got some help with a slam from teammate Jordan Young as the #19 Roadrunners collected a 71-61 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (9-1 overall, 1-1 SSAC) with the win, while Life (Ga.) falls to (9-3 overall, 0-2 MSC) with the loss. The Roadrunners got a huge game from Kevon Tucker as the JUCO All-American torched the Eagles for 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor. He also notched four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Randy Bell added 15 points and six rebounds in the win.
 
Cam Horton and Connor Gamble led the Runnin' Eagles with 13 points each. Horton added seven boards. Tory Ferguson was the third Life player in double-figures with 12 points, while Jeremy Joyner collected 12 rebounds.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
The Birds dominated the paint outscoring the Eagles 30-10 and got the edge on the glass 43-35. The Roadrunners also went 24-for-59 (40.7%) from the field, while holding Life to 16-for-51 (31.4%). Thirty-four of the Eagles 51 attempts from the field came from behind the arc where they hit only nine for a 26.5% clip. In contrast, the Roadrunners were more selective only taking 16 attempts from distance knocking down five (31.3%).

#19 Dalton State will be back at home on Saturday, December 14 when they host Carver (Ga.) at Bandy Gymnasium. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
