(RV) Roadrunners Lose Nailbitter To #3 William Carey


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – (RV) Dalton State again played one of the best teams in the nation coming out with the same result as the last, a 1-0 defeat this time to the hands of #3 William Carey (Miss.) at Crusader Field in Hattiesburg, Miss on Saturday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (WC 1-0): James Cooper put the only points on the scoreboard in the 57' with an assist from Caleb Counselman.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
(RV) Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (11-3-1 overall, 3-2 SSAC) with the loss, while #3 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (11-0-4 overall, 5-0-2 SSAC) with the win. The Roadrunners held the advantage in shots at a clip of 14-13, but the Crusaders nipped the Birds in shots on goal, 6-5. Aaron Fraire and Jose Domingo put on a show in goal, combining for nine saves (Domingo 5, Fraire 4).
 
A stingy Carey defense kept Dalton State from mounting a last attack as Zachary Perry got the final Roadrunner shot off with just under six minutes remaining. The Crusaders got two more off in the final four minutes with one being blocked by Justin Riescher and Fraire collecting a save on the other.

A key conference match awaits the Lady Birds as they return home to take on (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) on Halloween night, October 31 at 5:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex.
