Dalton State Extends Winning Streak To Four With Win Over Faulkner

DALTON, Ga. - It wasn't pretty, but the Roadrunners got the job done. Thanks in part to a monster game from Sean Chislom, Dalton State pulled out a 67-55 win over Faulkner (Ala.) in Southern States Athletic Conference action at Mashburn Arena in Dalton on Thursday night.

THE FIRST HALF
It was a slow start to the night for both teams as Faulkner held a slim 5-2 lead after the first three minutes of play. The next few possessions featured sloppy play on both sides as the squads combined for two turnovers and three missed shots. Dalton State tied it at 5-5 after a Sean Chislom three pointer with 15:48 to play in the half. The Eagles heated up though as a quick 8-0 run highlighted by two C.J. Jones treys put Faulkner up 13-5 and forced a Dalton State timeout.

The Roadrunners would answer back out of the breather. A 10-1 run saw them take a brief 15-14 lead. A Dalton State turnover turned into a fast break layup to give the lead right back to the Eagles. It began a stretch where the lead changed hands six times. With back-to-back three pointers by Randy Bell and Sean Cranney, the Roadrunners assumed the lead for good in the half, 27-23, with 4:06 left. A cold spell hit both teams going into the break as they combined for just six points in the final four minutes as Dalton State took a narrow two-point lead, 29-27, into the break.

THE SECOND HALF
The second period of play started with a turnover from Faulkner. Dalton State quickly turned it into points on the other end with a Chislom bucket to put the Roadrunners up 31-27. The good start quickly faded as missed opportunities and mistakes continued to prevent the Roadrunners from making a run and pulling away.

When the under 12-minute media timeout came, Dalton State held a 44-43 lead. The Roadrunners gained some momentum when Bell tipped a pass to a waiting Raheem England who put it up and in for a 46-43 lead. Faulkner countered with a three from Jacob Spence to even the score at 46-46. It was the bulk of the scoring until the under six-minute media timeout as both teams scored just six points during the six-minute stretch.

A 14-3 run after the media timeout sparked the Roadrunners. Key shots from D'Anfernee Pugh and Elijah Staley put the Roadrunners up by 12 with 1:10 remaining in the game. With time running out, Faulkner settled for quick shots and were forced to foul.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to (8-5 overall, 3-2 SSAC) with the win, while Faulkner drops to (9-4 overall, 2-3 SSAC) with the loss. Sean Chislom led Dalton State with a monster double-double.
