Middle Georgia Halts Roadrunners Winning Streak At Four

DALTON, Ga. - Hot shooting from three-point range by Middle Georgia would be the difference in the game as the visiting Knights scored an 86-72 win over Dalton State in SSAC action at Mashburn Arena in Dalton on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
Middle Georgia hopped out to an early 6-0 lead off the back of three pointers from Tyrone Young and Darrell White. Buckets from Raheem England and Sean Cranney cut into the Knight advantage, but a 5-for-9 start from the field had MGA up 13-5 four minutes in and forced a Dalton State timeout. After the timeout the Roadrunners began to chip into the lead, but the Knights answered back and stretched the lead out to nine after a McKinley Chambliss trey. At the media break, the Knights held a 20-11 lead.

Out of the media TO, the Roadrunners scored the next seven points to cut the lead to two at 20-18. An Elijah Staley basket in the paint tied the game at 22-22, but Middle Georgia came down court on their next two possessions and hit back-to-back three pointers to go back up by six. It would be the start of a 19-6 stretch for the Knights that saw them go up 41-28 with 1:44 to go into the half. Dalton State got a bucket from Aaron Burress as time wound down and held MGA scoreless as they went into the halftime break down 11, 41-30.

THE SECOND HALF
A Cranney free throw and a three from Antony Edwards got the scoring started in the second half and made the score 44-31 in favor of the Knights. An 11-4 run from the Roadrunners got them back into the game and cut the lead to six at 48-42. MGA stayed hot from behind the arc and answered back with five straight points to get the lead back to double-digits with 11:39 to play.

Middle Georgia kept the lead in double-digits and continued to halt any run the Roadrunners attempted to make. At the 6:04 mark Dalton State trailed 65-53 and were looking to chip away at the lead. Randy Bell led the charge pouring in six straight to cut the lead to six. Another three-pointer from the Knights put a stop to the run and put MGA up by nine at 68-59.

Soon after the lead would grow to 12 before Dalton State got another chance to whittle it down. They would get it back to six at 68-62, but struggled to sustain the momentum as Middle Georgia answered every time. Down the stretch, the Roadrunners were forced to foul, while the Knights hit their shots from the line. In the end, MGA came away with the 86-72 win and capped the Roadrunners win streak at four.
