Men's Soccer Claims First Win Against North Greenville


TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Roadrunners opened their season by putting up an impressive defensive performance and scoring a late goal to defeat North Greenville (S.C.) 1-0 at Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville, S.C., on Tuesday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
Both teams opened with strong defensive performances which would include a trio of saves from Roadrunner netminder Samuel Fraire. NGU would pick up their first yellow card early in the first half while the Dalton State would miss a late opportunity to take the lead on a Steve Taylor hit to the crossbar. Both teams would go into the half tied at 0-0.

THE SECOND HALF
Both teams would come out shooting while Samuel Fraire continued his solid effort from the first period. Freshman Frank Herrera found a way around NGU GK Dawson Martin to score the first and only goal of the game at the 69'. NGU would keep the shots coming, but the Roadrunners would hold on to the lead to finish off the Crusaders, 1-0.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to 1-0 to open the season. Both teams tied for shots while sophomore Samuel Fraire began his second season in net with 7 saves. Newcomer Frank Herrera recorded his first goal as a Roadrunner on an unassisted attack.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will travel to Atlanta to face off against Emory University on Friday, August 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
