Fraire Lifts Roadrunners Past #3-seed Florida College In OT Thriller

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - For the second straight season, Dalton State needed penalty kicks to decide an opening round match in the SSAC Tournament and for the second straight season the Roadrunners came out on top beating Florida College on the road to advance to the semifinals in Montgomery, Ala. on Nov. 7.

THE FIRST HALF
The match had the early makings of a possible shootout. Florida College would get the first shot off in the 5' but Royce Luedde would fire wide. It would be the Roadrunners turn after, but Carlos Contreras would save an attempt from Taeylor Fisch to preserve the 0-0 tie.

Both squads would trade opportunities with neither able to find the back of the net. The defenses' would play incredible for both teams limiting scoring chances for each. At the half, the score would remain tied at 0-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The intensity would pick up in the second half with both teams continuing to play hard defense and cutting off chances for the other to score. Dalton State seemed to take the advantage of the half around the 65' mark and took shots at Contreras, but he would save four Dalton State shots in the period. The last in the 86' off the boot of Frank Herrera would be the last chance for either team. At the end of the half, the score would remain tied at 0-0 as they headed for overtime.

OVERTIME
The teams used the beginning of each overtime as a cooling down period. Each would get the chance to mount one attack. Both Samuel Fraire and Contreras from FC would play incredible in goal saving three of the four shots combined in overtime. Another shot from Jose Villalobos would sail high. Overtime would tick away as the teams headed to mid-field to prepare for penalty kicks.

PENALTY KICKS
Daniel Valenciano would start out and connect for the first point. Krist Berisha would go next for Florida College and match Valenciano to tie the point tally at 1-1. The teams would trade points back-and-forth.

With the points tied at 4-4 Isael Gutierrez would step up and knock it home for a 5-4 advantage. Connor Nixon would be the last FC kicker in the initial rotation. He would strike the ball well and send it towards the upper left ninty. Fraire would be close before, but this time he read Nixon perfectly and skyed in the air, getting his right hand on the ball and knocking it clear of goal. In the end, the Roadrunners would take the 5-4 advantage and move on in the SSAC Tournament.
