Staley's 34 Points Leads Roadrunners Back To .500

MARIETTA, Ga. - #15-ranked Dalton State got 34 big points from Elijah Staley as they avenged two losses from last season and took down Coastal Georgia 80-75 on the final day of the Life University Classic at The Eagles Nest in Marietta on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
In a game that went back and forth, the Mariners would hold a 10-7 lead five minutes in. On the next Dalton State possession Elijah Staley would connect from deep to tie the game at 10-10. It would be just one of three 3's from Staley on the evening as he connected on all of his attempts from behind the arc.

Coastal would jump back on top and hold the lead again until two Staley free throws tied the game at 25-25 with 8:08 remaining in the half. The momentum would switch hands multiple times in a half that featured seven ties. With 2:24 to go, the Mariners seized control going on an 11-4 run to close the half and go into the break with a 45-38 lead.

THE SECOND HALF
The Mariners would quickly extend the lead to 11 at 49-38 just one minute into the second period of play. The double-digit lead would be short lived as Dalton State started to chip away and cut it to four with 15:57 left after a Sean Chislom layup in the paint. Both teams would trade buckets, but the Roadrunners would hit a spurt and tie the game at 59-59 with 12:24 on the clock after a Timothy Green basket.

With 6:06 left, Kingston Frazier would snag a board and start a fast break. He would get in the paint and finish it off to give Dalton State a two-point lead, 69-67. The Roadrunners would not trail again. Coastal Georgia would get within one on two more occasions, but Dalton State answered with big buckets down the stretch and held on for the 80-75 win.
