Roadrunners Open Conference Play With Loss To SSAC Newcomer Stillman


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - #15 Dalton State played well offensively, but could not overcome 16 three-pointers from Stillman (Ala.) as the Roadrunners opened SSAC play with a 111-99 loss to the Tigers in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Thursday night.

THE FIRST HALF
A great offensive plan was in place for the Roadrunners as they jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with buckets by Elijah Staley and Ty Pendley. The Tigers would bounce back with three 3's to take a 13-10 lead with 16:41 remaining in the half.

Dalton State would hang tough and go toe-to-toe with the high powered offense of Stillman. Staley would tie the game at 19-19 at the 15:10 mark with a bucket in the paint. Stillman would once again attempt to go on a run, but the Roadrunners would again battle back and tie the contest at 25-25 with 12:35 to go after a Timothy Green basket.

Stillman would start to roll going on a 13-2 run capped by a Londell King bucket to take a 38-27 lead. The teams would continue to trade buckets, but the Tigers would stretch the lead out to 16 points at 57-41 with 3:23 on the clock. Dalton State would miss a few key buckets in the waning minutes of the half and go into halftime down 13 points, 61-48.

THE SECOND HALF
Stillman would pick up where they left off in the first half and open the second period of play with a 13-3 run to stretch the lead out to 23 points at 74-51. Dalton State would re-group and start to chip away. They would use a 9-2 capped by a Sean Cranney three to cut the Stillman lead to 16. The Stillman lead would stabilize from there.

Staley would get a bucket in the paint with 11:33 remaining to cut the lead to 14 points at 81-67, but the Roadrunners struggled to get stops and get the game closer. Dalton State would get as close as 11 points with 4:41 remaining in the half, but Stillman would be too strong on the evening as they would keep the lead in double-digits and win 111-99.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State falls to (3-4 overall, 0-1 SSAC) with the loss, while (RV) Stillman (Ala.) improves to (7-0 overall, 1-0 SSAC) with the win. Senior Elijah Staley led Dalton State in scoring with 31 points as the Roadrunners had five players score in double-figures. He also added seven rebounds to the stat sheet.

Junior Randy Bell and senior D'Anfernee Pugh added 15 and 14 points respectively, while Kingston Frazier notched his first double-figure game for the Roadrunners with 11 points. Frazier would be close to the double-double adding nine rebounds. Sean Cranney was the last Roadrunner in double-figures with 10 points and six assists.

Londell King led the way for Stillman with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Ravion Henry and Prince McDaniel added 20 and 19 respectively to go with six rebounds for each. DaQuan Forrest notched 13 points, while Dantaveous Crawford added 11 points and five rebounds.

UP NEXT
The #15 Roadrunners will remain on the road and head to Mobile, Ala. next for a matchup with Mobile (Ala.) on Saturday, December 1. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CT).
