Lady Roadrunners Suffer Road Defeat At The Hands Of Bethel

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Dalton State Women's Soccer team fought hard down to the last minute, but could not overcome a strong Bethel attack in a 2-0 loss to the Lady Wildcats at Wildcat Field in McKenzie, Tenn. on Wednesday evening.

THE FIRST HALF
Bethel would come out on the attack early and they would strike often with six shots in the first 20 minutes of play. The attacking style would pay off as Maggie Swift converted a goal in the 18' as Bethel took the lead, 1-0. The Lady Wildcats would not be done there. Less than two minutes later, Brittany Bray would also find the back of the net for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Lady Roadrunners would get two shots off in the waning minutes of the first half. Junior Rocio Carrizales would hammer a ball at Bethel goalkeeper Jenna Mullen in the 34', but it would hit the crossbar and bounce back into play. Unable to convert, the Lady Birds would go into the break down 2-0.

THE SECOND HALF
The Lady Wildcats would once again jump out on the attack from the start of the second half. They would manage to get four shots off before DS could mount an attack of their own, but the Lady Roadrunner defense would be up to the challenge turning the Lady Wildcats away empty handed.

Dalton State would mount an attack of their own in the 69' when Andrea Soto Calderon and Adriana Romero fired shots at Mullen, but she would save them both. The Lady Roadrunners would take one more chance at goal in the 89' but it would be for not as Mullen would turn Calderon away without a goal as Bethel would hang on for the 2-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to (6-6-3 overall, 0-5-2 SSAC) with the loss, while Bethel improves to (10-7 overall, 3-4 SSAC) with the win. The Lady Wildcats out shot the Lady Roadrunners 12-5, but the teams would end even in shots on goal at 4-4.
