Lady Birds Upended By Middle Georgia


COCHRAN, Ga. – It was a disappointing night for the Dalton State Women's Soccer team. The Lady Roadrunners put up a good fight but were on the wrong end of the score, falling 2-0 to Middle Georgia State at Knight Field in Cochran on Thursday evening.
 
THE FIRST HALF
Right out of the gate the match was a battle between Dalton State and MGA. Only eight minutes in to the first period there were already four fouls called, three on Middle Georgia and one on Dalton State. It would be the Knights who would take the momentum in the first period, putting three shots on goal. Lady Roadrunner goalkeeper would be up to the task saving each shot as the teams went into the break tied at 0-0.
 
THE SECOND HALF
The second period is where it went downhill for Dalton State. Both teams swapped blows, but within the course of just a minute the win slipped away from the Lady Roadrunners. At the 60' mark Hannah Theriault kicked in a goal, and then managed to kick in yet another in the 61'. The Lady Birds would fight back and put six shots on goal in an effort to cut into the Lady Knight lead. None of the shots would make it past Ronja Andersson as she recorded four second half saves as Middle Georgia would hang on for the 2-0 victory.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to (6-5-2 overall, 0-4-1 SSAC) with the loss, while Middle Georgia improves to (7-7-1 overall, 3-3-0 SSAC) with the win. The Lady Roadrunners are now tied with Faulkner (Ala.) for 8th place in the SSAC standings and will have to win two of their last three matches to advance to the SSAC Tournament.

Alyssa Bilbrey and Sarah Chamale both performed very well with a combined six shots on goal. Sydnee Newton also had a solid night in goal only allowing two goals and recording seven saves in the match.

UP NEXT
The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action at Lakeshore Park on Saturday, October 20 for their regular season home finale against Brewton-Parker (Ga.). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with Senior Night presentations taking place between the end of the women's match and beginning of the men's match.
