Lady Roadrunners Tie With Brewton-Parker

DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State Women's Soccer team would play to a 1-1 draw against visiting Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in SSAC soccer action at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex in Dalton on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
Dalton State would jump out of the gate first with a shot on goal in the 4', but Adriana Arroyo would be up to the task with the save. Brewton-Parker would strike next with a shot and save from DS goalkeeper Sydnee Newton. An ensuing corner kick would be cleared out of the zone to keep the score tied at 0-0.

Later in the 25', Adriana Delgado would get a good look at goal and fire it through for a 1-0 lead. The fired up Lady Roadrunners would stay on the attack and look to add to the total. Five good looks would be saved or go wide as Dalton State headed into halftime carrying a 1-0 lead.

THE SECOND HALF
Much of the early stages of the second period were played in the mid-field area with both teams battling for possession. Dalton State would win the battle getting two shots off in the 64', but the last shot would cause a long rebound that created a fast break for the Lady Barons. They would slow the possession down, but it would give them enough of an advantage to get Dalton State out of position and hit the equalizer. It would come off the boot of Caitlyn Bassett, who would connect and tie the score at 1-1.

With seven minutes remaining the Lady Roadrunners would get their last look at goal in regulation, but would be denied by Arroyo. Brewton-Parker would mount a last second try and come up short thanks in part to Newton in goal. Time would run out with the score tied at 1-1 and the teams headed to overtime.

OVERTIME
Caitlyn Bassett would have a shot to end the match early into overtime, but her attempt would clank off the post. Dalton State would get back on the attack as time was winding down. An Adriana Delgado shot would travel high, but Alyssa Bilbrey would get a chance with under a minute remaining. Arroyo would once again be up to the task sending the match into a second overtime.

Both teams would cling to life in the second overtime. With both teams completely gassed, play would mostly stay in the mid-field area. Time would tick down with neither team able to gain an advantage. The horn would sound as Dalton State settled for a 1-1 tie.
