The March Continues Today As #3 Roadrunners Face Montana Western

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - #1-seeded Dalton State will take on #4-seed Montana Western today in the round of 16 of the NAIA National Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO. Tip-Off is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. (CDT).

DALTON STATE
The Roadrunners played a great game on Thursday against a very under-seeded Harris-Stowe State ball club.  The Hornets made (5-of-12) 3-pointers in the first half and capitalized off a strong following of fans from down the road in St.Louis. The second half was a different story as the Roadrunners showed the crowd why they are a number one seed in the tournament. Dalton State tightened up on defense and made their free throws en route to an 84-82 win. Five Roadrunners scored in double-figures led by Carnilious Simmons with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Box put on an amazing display of passing, tallying six assist and 12 points. Mike Harden (16), Sayvon Wilson (12) and Reed Dungan (10) were the other Roadrunners in double-figures.

The Dalton State backcourt will have their hands full today with Bulldog guards Dom Robinson and Shyke Smalls. They combined for 57 of the teams 99 points against LSU Shreveport while assisting on 12 other baskets. The Roadrunners will have to play tight man-to-man defense and contain the guard play if they expect to win.

"Harris-Stowe attacked the basket and hit their 3-pointers in the first half," said Dalton State coach Tony Ingle. "One of the biggest differences was that we held them to (1-for-7) on 3-pointers in the second half. I was really happy with how we competed in the second half and we competed with composure. I was very pleased with how this team responded in this environment. We kept our composure offensively, we competed well defensively and we rebounded hard. I feel blessed to move on."

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
MONTANA WESTERN

The Bulldogs advanced to the round of 16 by beating LSU Shreveport, 99-94. Montana Western is led on offense by junior guard Dom Robinson. Robinson went off on Thursday night scoring 32 on (10-of-12) from the field and (6-of-7) from behind the arc to go along with seven assist. His backcourt mate Shyke Smalls had a great game as well, going for 25 points and dishing five assist of his own. The Bulldogs are not a big team, but they play smart, fundamental basketball. They can be beat if you control the play of their guards and rebound the basketball. Limiting second chance opportunities will be the key to the game.
