Roadrunners Improve To 4-0 With Win Over Johnson & Wales (Fla.)

DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State maintained a consistent double digit lead to defeat Johnson & Wales (Fla.) 71-59 in the final game of the Roadrunner Thanksgiving Classic Saturday night at Mashburn Arena.
 
THE FIRST HALF

The Roadrunners established a big lead through the first half, going unanswered on a 13-0 run to take the lead at 28-10 with 8:56 left. The Wildcats were unable to find a comeback stride, and continued to trail by double-digits until the end of the half.  Dalton State would lead 39-21 at the break .
 
THE SECOND HALF

The Wildcats began a dedicated stretch out of halftime to cut the lead to 13 at 58-45 with 10:05 left, but were unable to surpass the Roadrunners as they continued to match point for point over the remaining time towards a 71-59 win.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY

Dalton State improves to 4-0 on the season and a strong 2-0 start to a seven game home stand, while Johnson & Wales drops to 4-2, 0-1 in the Sun Conference. The Roadrunners had three players score in the double-figures, led by Carnilious Simmons with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Isaiah Box followed with a healthy 17 points and 3 assist. Sayvon Wilson was the third Roadrunner in double digits with 16 points and went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
 
Johnson & Wales was kept competitive by the strong showing of Richard Suarez. Suarez led the Wildcats with 21 points. Gino Fils-Aime was the second highest scorer with 11 points.
 
The Roadrunners outscored the Wildcats in the paint 26-18.

Dalton State will face Hiwassee College at Mashburn Arena on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m.
