DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State women's soccer team clinched the 4th seed in the upcoming Southern States Conference tournament in dramatic fashion with at thrilling 3-2 win over visiting Bethel University at Lakeshore Soccer Complex on Thursday night.
The first half was a defensive struggle from both teams that ended in a 0-0 tie going to the break. The Roadrunners would strike quick in the second half on a goal by Adriana Romero in the 47th minute. Dalton State would find the goal again in the 69th minute when Akelia Raines found the back of the net on an assist by
Rosie Lindo.
With the Lady Roadrunners holding a 2-0 lead and running out the clock, Bethel would go on the attack. Melinda Sopka would score two goals in a 2 minute stretch with under 5 minutes to go in regulation to tie the game at 2-2.
The Roadrunners would take the kickoff with 1 minute to go and went on the attack immediately and with 20 seconds left,
Rosie Lindo sent a strike past Danielle Krzyzaniak to give Dalton State the win.
"I give great credit to the Bethel University coaching staff and players, but our team was relentless," said DS coach Kerem Daser. "We showed great heart by scoring the game winner right after they tied it up. I am so happy with this win. It enables us to have a winning record in our first year of competition and also allows us to host a first round match next week."
Rosie Lindo and Adriana Romero had 1 goal and 1 assist each in the win.
The Lady Roadrunners will hit the pitch again on Saturday, October 29 when they match-up against #3-ranked Martin Methodist at 5:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Park.
