Roadrunners Win Five Set Thriller

DALTON, Ga. -  The Dalton State volleyball defeated Brenau University 3-2 in a five set thriller Friday night in Southern States Athletic Conference action in Bandy Gym.

The Roadrunners looked poised for an easy 3-0 win, but the visiting Golden Tigers had other thoughts.  Dalton State battled out of a hole in the first set.  Down 23-18, the Lady Roadrunners went on an 8-0 run to take the first set, 25-23.  The momentum from the first set comeback propelled DS to an easy second set win, 25-15. 

The Lady Roadrunners were well on their way to the 3-0 sweep, up 18-11 in the third set.  Brenau would gain the momentum back at that point and fight for a 26-24 win.  Brenau would start the fourth set on fire and cruise to a 25-16 win, setting up a deciding fifth set.

Brenau was poised to close the match out, up 14-9 and serving for the final point, but the Roadrunners found new life thanks to Grace Hardin and Casey Cox.  Cox and Hardin would combine for 4 kills and 1 block in a 7-0 run that closed out the set and the match in the Roadrunners favor.

Dalton State improves to 6-13 overall, 5-7 in the SSAC.  Brenau drops to 5-16, 3-9 in the Southern States.

Offensively the Lady Roadrunners were led by Anna Metzler.  Metzler posted another double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.  Clarissa Weber had 21 assist for Dalton State.  The Roadrunners were strong on defense with four players in double-digits in digs, led by Olivia Keegan with 15.

ON THE HORIZON
The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action for a three match homestand starting on Friday, October 21 when they square-off with William Carey on Senior Night in Bandy Gym at 7:00 p.m.  On Saturday, October 22 your Roadrunners will host Mobile at 12:00 p.m. before closing out the home season on Sunday, October 23 against Loyola-New Orleans at 12:00 p.m. in Bandy Gym.
