Box Score Coastal Georgia Downs DS Volleyball, 3-0 Dalton State 18 18 19 = 0Coastal Georgia 25 25 25 = 3 The Dalton State volleyball team fell to the No. 13 ranked College of Coastal Georgia Mariners (14-1, 5-0) Saturday at Bandy Gymnasium on the Dalton State campus.
The Mariners swept the match with the Roadrunners three sets to none, but Dalton State Coach Bruna Langner said her team had nothing to be ashamed of.
"I am very proud of my team tonight," said Langner. "We played really well against a great team. We now realize how good we are and how much potential we have as a team."
Coastal Georgia broke open a 13-13 tie in the first set and outscored the hosts 12-5 down the stretch for the 25-18 set win. The Mariners jumped out to a 13-7 second set lead. The Roadrunners pulled to within one (19-18) before CCGA scored the final six points of the set.
Dalton State also managed to trail 19-18 in the final set before the Mainers went on for the 25-19 set victory and the match win.
Anna Metzler had 11 kills and one serving ace for DS.
Michala Askew tallied 18 assists, seven digs and one block. Coastal's Emma Anderson had nine kills, four serving aces and nine digs.
Dalton State (4-7, 0-4) will host another SSAC opponent at noon on Saturday. Brewton-Parker will be at Bandy Gymnasium. The Roadrunners will follow-up with a scrimmage against Gulf Coast State at 2:00 p.m.
