 Roadrunners Advance With 85-74 Win Over Evangel

Kansas City, MO – Dalton State's basketball Roadrunners eliminated Evangel (MO), 85-74 Friday morning in the Round of 16 in the NAIA D-I Men's Tournament at 9,500 seat Municipal Auditorium.
 
The No. 6 Roadrunners (29-4) advance to the quarter finals where they will play No. 3 seed Cal State San Marcos (30-3) at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Cougars came back from an 11-point half time deficit to nip Arizona Christian (25-9), 61-59.
 
Dalton State had raced to a 45-28 half time lead thanks to the play at the three-point line on both ends of the court. The Crusaders failed on nine first half long-range attempts.
 
'Our team plays with so much heart and togetherness, and it inspires me as a coach, and they are busting their butts striving to make the college, the community and each other proud," said State Coach Tony Ingle. "Ladaris (Green) and Jordan (Bowling) were sensational on the boards and scoring as well as Jamaine (Burrey) getting hot at the right time.
 
With another double double, Green led the Roadrunners in scoring and rebounds with a game high 22 points and a dozen rebounds. Bowling had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Roadrunners.
 
Burrey came off the bench for 17 points. Sean Tate had 13 points and six assists. Anthony Hilliard scored nine and Preston Earle added seven.
 
Rebounding was close with Dalton State edging out Evangel 38-37.  The big difference was shooting from the floor where the Roadrunners hit 51.7 percent (31 of 60) while Evangel was just 27 of 64 and Dalton State hit 48 percent (12 of 25) from beyond the arch to the Crusaders seven of 29.
 
Evangel (21-13) outscored the Roadrunners in the paint, 38—28.  Korey Tillery led the Crusaders with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

 





















Cal State San Marcos 61, Arizona Christian 59

Akachi Okugo only scored seven points for Cal State San Marcos... the first bucket of the game, a three-point shot that narrowed the deficit from 14 points to 11 (41-30) at the half, and two free throws that gave the Cougars the win.

CSSM outscored the Firestorm 31-18 in the second half. Blake Nash scored 17 points, Julian Camper had 13 points and nine rebounds Dayton Bobbie added nine points.

No. 2 Talladega (AL) (31-4) defeated Our Lady Of The Lakes (TX) Friday, 79-70. No. 7 Pikeville (KY) (28-5) escaped Concordia (Calif.), 97-93. Talladego and Pikeville are secheduled to meet Friday at 2:00 p.,. CDT.

No. 7 Martin Methodist (30-4) downed the University of the Cumberlands (KY), 73-59. Top seeded Hope International (Calif.) (31-2) bested Montana Western 82-72. The No. 8 Redhawks and the Royals will play Saturday at 4:00 p.m. CDT.

Westmont (Calif.) (23-10) knocked-off No. 5 seed Campbellsville (KY) (29-6) Friday to advance and play No. 13 Mid-America Christian (OK) in the third round Friday at 8:00 p.m. CDT. Mid-America Chriistian (23-10) took MIssouri Valley in the second round, 81-72.
