Dalton State Moves To Second in SSAC With Win Over Brewton-Parker, 84-69

Mount Vernon, GA -The  (12) Dalton State basketball Roadrunners came from five points back at the half Thursday night to knock-off Brewton-Parker at Gillis Gymnasium, 84-69.
 
It was a win that moved Dalton State (18-3 overall, 9-2 SSAC) into second place in the Southern States Athletic Conference. (T8) Bethel (18-5, 9-3) fell back of the Roadrunners by losing to William Carey (15-6, 8-4) Thursday night, 77-74
 
"It was probably the best game we've played all year," said Dalton State Coach Tony Ingle after the Roadrunners rallied from the 37-32 half-time deficit to win by 15. Brewton-Parker actually went up by ten points on a three-point-shot by Justin Quarterman to start the second half. A three by Ladaris Green and the first two of three straight three-point shots by Preston Earle pulled the Roadrunners to within one at 42-41.
 
"We really shot the ball well in the second half beginning with Preston Earle hitting three consecutive three pointers," added Ingle. "I am really proud of the way we played, especially in the second half, both offensively and defensively."
 
It was a great team effort. Earle led Dalton State scorers with 25 points. He hit 9 of 20 from the floor, including six of 13 from beyond the arch.  Earle added six rebounds and four assists. Anthony Hilliard scored 16 and had three assists.
 
Jordan Bowling had 14 points and five rebounds. Sean Tate scored 14 points including 10 of 10 from the charity stripe. He also had three assists and three rebounds.
 
NAIA D-I's leading rebounding team only helped those stats. "Ladaris was sensational," said Coach Ingle said of 6-10 senior Ladaris Green.
 
Green scored nine points and had 16 rebounds (13 of those on the defensive end of the court). Before the game, he was already averaging 12.20 rebounds per game with 9.25 on defense. Individually, he tops the nation in defensive rebounds per game and is second in total rebounds per contest.
 
The Roadrunners were tenth in NAIA D-I with blocked shots at 4.24 per game and Green averaged 2.55.  The team had seven blocks Thursday night… all but two from Green.
 
Raheem Mosley scored five points in only 4:07 of playing time. He made both shots that he attempted. One shot for two points and one for three.
 
Dalton State out rebounded Brewton-Parker 39 to 35. The Roadrunners were 25/57 (48.1%) from the floor. They were an amazing 47.1% from three-point land.
 
The Barons were 26/61 (40.06%) from the field and only 28.6% from beyond the arch. Warren LeBeauf and Dion Bernard each scored 16 points for BP. Bernard led the hosts in rebounds with seven. McKel Miller had 15 points and six rebounds.
 
The Roadrunners now go to Brunswick to face College of Coastal Georgia (4-18 overall, 2-9 SSAC) Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and to Due West, SC on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. game at Erskine College.
 
The next two Roadrunner games at Mashburn Arena are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 12th against Middle Georgia and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 14th, against Martin Methodist
 
In a women's game played immediately before Thursday's men's game, Brenau University downed Brewton-Parker 69-57.
