Pulaski, Tn. – The Dalton State volleyball team dropped a hard fought five set match to Martin Methodist Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Currey Christian Life Center. The hosts improved to 7 and 22 on the season and five and nine in the Southern States Athletic Conference. That places them in a tie with Dalton State for sixth place in the nine-team conference.
The Roadrunners broke open a 3-3 tie and pulled away to a 13-6 first set lead. The Redhawks came back to move to within three at 15-12 before DS went on to win the set, 25-16.
The only Roadrunner lead of the second set was at 2-1 as Martin Methodist dominated the game, 25-13. The Redhawks never trailed in the third set on their way to a 25-14 victory.
Dalton State tied the match in the fourth set. The Roadrunners largest lead was at 24-13 as they cruised to the 25-15 win. The tie breaker got off to a 2-2 tie before Martin Methodist took control of the game and won the set 15-4 and the match 3-2.
Savannah Nelson had nine kills and four digs for Dalton State. Anna Metzler had eight kills and 14 digs. Michala Askew had seven kills, 22 assists and ten digs. Karly Newman recorded 14 digs.
The Roadrunners (11-13, 5-9 SSAC) return home Friday for senior night at Bandy Gym. They will play Loyola of New Orleans at 7 p.m. and finish up the regular season at home against Mobile Saturday, November 7th, at noon.
