Women's Golf-Jim McGrew

Jim McGrew

Jim McGrew was named Dalton State's first head women's golf coach in February of 2013. He is a native of Kingsville, TX and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. McGrew spent 30 years in public school education as a math teacher and coach, including 25 in Georgia. 

PATH TO DALTON STATE
From 1985-1989, McGrew taught and coached at Piggott High School in Piggott, Arkansas, where was varsity assistant coach and junior high head coach. In addition, he was head coach of varsity and junior varsity girls basketball and assistant baseball coach.

In 1989, he headed east to Northwest Whitfield High School. While there, McGrew
directed the boys golf program for 10 years, winning four region championships. His 2009 girls team won the Georgia AAAA state championship. He also spent 23 years roaming the sidelines as a coach for the Bruins football program. 

TIME WITH THE ROADRUNNERS
A year away from retirement from the public school system, McGrew took on the challenge of collegiate golf becoming head coach of the Lady Roadrunners. He spent his first year recruiting a squad to take the course in the Fall of 2014.

The Lady Birds had immediate success out of the gate, winning the Southern States Athletic Conference championship and placing runner-up at the NAIA National Championship. That same year, Julia McQuilken won the individual medalist honors at the national championship making it a clean sweep for Roadrunner golf as Sean Elliott won the same honor on the mens side.

More success followed as Dalton State has finished 4th on five occasions at the national championship while collecting 40 total team wins. Thirty All-Americans and 28 national scholar-athletes have been part of championship winning teams coach by McGrew.
