Dalton State Uses Four-Goal First Half to Defeat Johnson (Tenn.), 4-1


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dalton State produced four first-half goals and protected its advantage after the break to earn a 4-1 victory over Johnson (Tenn.) on Monday. Alice Legnedahl scored twice, while Brooke Fairchild and Selma Adzigorovska added one goal apiece.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State applied pressure from the opening minutes and broke through at the 11:41 mark. Lexi Lyon supplied the assist, and Alice Legnedahl converted the opening goal to give Dalton State a 1-0 lead.
 
Legnedahl struck again in the 24th minute, scoring an unassisted goal at 23:18 to double the advantage. Less than four minutes later, Brooke Fairchild found the net at 27:00, pushing the margin to 3-0.
 
Johnson answered through Aubrey Felice at 39:18, cutting Dalton State's lead to 3-1. Dalton State responded quickly, however, as Selma Adzigorovska scored at 41:21 off an assist from Amy Wearing to send Dalton State into halftime with a 4-1 advantage.
 
Dalton State recorded nine shots in the opening half and placed five on goal. Johnson attempted six first-half shots, with goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd making three saves during the period.
 
SECOND HALF
No scoring occured after halftime as Dalton State managed the three-goal lead. Johnson generated six shots in the second half, but Rickerd was credited with five additional saves to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
 
Dalton State produced three second-half shots and earned two corner kicks. Its best recorded opportunity came in the 73rd minute, when Legnedahl placed a shot on goal that was stopped by Johnson goalkeeper Ella Murr.
 
Johnson tested the Dalton State defense several times late in the match, including three shots by Campbell Blair and an attempt from Marley VanBuskirk. Each was recorded as a save as Dalton State closed out the 4-1 result
