Huitanda’s Late Goal Lifts Dalton State Past Northwestern (Ohio), 1-0


DALTON, Ga. – Jesus Huitanda scored in the 86th minute to propel Dalton State to a 1-0 victory over Northwestern (Ohio) on Saturday. The Roadrunners controlled much of the match, finishing with advantages of 14-4 in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks while improving to 3-1 on the season.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State established the attacking pressure early, with Pedro Silva and Jack Kuspert each having shots blocked inside the opening eight minutes. Northwestern Ohio generated its first look on goal in the 13th minute, but Dalton State goalkeeper Bernardo Manzano stopped Raul Oliu to keep the match scoreless.
 
The Roadrunners continued to press and earned five corner kicks during the opening period. Jason Guerrero-Blanco sent an attempt wide in the 23rd minute, while another shot from Jack Kuspert went high in the 31st. Bernardo Manzano added a second save against Vasilije Males in the 26th minute, and the teams entered halftime tied at 0-0. Dalton State held a 4-2 edge in shots during the half.
 
SECOND HALF
Dalton State increased the pressure after the break. Jake Coltart forced a save from Northwestern Ohio goalkeeper Dean Sipura in the 50th minute, and Jamal Gizir followed with a blocked attempt less than a minute later. Additional opportunities came from Aaron Ramos, Sergio Salas, and Jamal Gizir as the Roadrunners searched for the breakthrough.
 
Jesus Huitanda put an effort on target in the 77th minute, but Dean Sipura made the save. Victor Valencia then pushed a shot wide in the 84th minute before Dalton State finally broke through at 85:13. Jesus Huitanda delivered the unassisted match-winner, recording his second shot on goal of the contest and giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
 
The Dalton State defense protected the advantage over the closing minutes to secure the shutout. Northwestern Ohio managed only two second-half shots, with its final attempt going high in the 85th minute. Bernardo Manzano completed the clean sheet with two saves across 90 minutes.
