Legnedahl’s Equalizer Helps Dalton State Earn Draw with Brenau

DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State controlled much of the attacking play and rallied from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Brenau on Friday, August 28, at Dalton Stadium. Alice Legnedahl scored the Roadrunners' equalizer in the 40th minute off an assist from Amy Wearing. Dalton State finished the match with a 22-11 advantage in shots and placed 12 attempts on goal. With the result, the Roadrunners moved to 1-0-3 on the season.

FIRST HALF
Brenau created the first opportunity of the afternoon when Madison Kitson forced Dalton State goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd into a save just over a minute into the match. Rickerd added three more stops during the opening 12 minutes, denying Caitlin Collins twice and Kitson once to keep the game scoreless.

Dalton State answered with pressure of its own. Lexi Lyon, Amy Wearing, Brooke Fairchild and Alice Legnedahl each generated early attempts, but Brenau goalkeeper Zyara Gonzalez-Galeano kept the Roadrunners off the board. Brenau broke through at the 15:49 mark when Kitson scored an unassisted goal to give the Golden Tigers a 1-0 advantage.

The Roadrunners continued to attack after falling behind. Dalton State produced 13 first-half shots, including six on goal, and found the equalizer with 5:39 remaining before halftime. Wearing helped create the scoring opportunity, and Legnedahl finished it at the 39:21 mark to send the teams into the break tied at 1-1.

SECOND HALF
Dalton State continued to dictate the pace after halftime, limiting Brenau to only two shots over the final 45 minutes. Rickerd saved the Golden Tigers' lone second-half attempt on goal in the 56th minute, finishing the match with six saves.

The Roadrunners repeatedly tested Gonzalez-Galeano while searching for the go-ahead goal. Lyon placed an attempt on frame in the 59th minute, while Tania Dominguez, Legnedahl and Chaney Paulino also forced saves during a sustained stretch of Dalton State pressure. The Roadrunners earned three second-half corner kicks, all taken by Wearing.

Dalton State remained on the front foot during the closing minutes. Legnedahl sent a shot high in the 86th minute, and the Roadrunners recorded one final attempt on goal with 17 seconds remaining. Gonzalez-Galeano made the save to preserve the 1-1 final.
