Smith’s 26 & 18 Power Roadrunners Past Brewton Parker, 82–74


MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Dalton State men's basketball rode a monster double-double from Omarion Smith to an 82–74 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners moved to 22–8 behind Smith's 26 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks.
 
Dalton State edged ahead 36–35 at the break and closed strong behind timely threes from Ja'Ron Briggs and clutch free throws from Jamori McDougald and Smith to finish off the Barons. Briggs hit four triples en route to 15 points, while Qualen Pettus added 15 points and 9 boards as the Roadrunners owned the glass 43–32.

FIRST HALF
Brewton-Parker jumped out early, taking a 6–2 lead at 16:46, but Dalton State answered behind a Briggs three and a Varun Danak put-back to steady things. Smith controlled the paint with 16 first-half points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks, repeatedly turning away Baron attempts at the rim. Jamori McDougald splashed a wing three at 5:54 to make it 27–21, Dalton State's largest edge of the half. Brewton-Parker closed with a late surge capped by a Jadon Melvin steal and layup at the horn, trimming the DS lead to 36–35 at intermission.
 
SECOND HALF
Briggs opened the half with a three at 19:51 to push the margin to 39–35, but the Barons kept it tight until a Raylan Barrion layup and free throw made it 49–45 with 14:56 left. McDougald drilled a deep three at 7:26 for a 65–59 cushion, and Danak finished a cut to the rim for a 73–67 advantage at 3:15. Briggs' dagger three at 2:29 stretched it to 76–69, and in the final minute McDougald (four) and Smith (two) sank six straight free throws to ice the 82–74 win.
