Lady Birds Look To Breakthrough To Montgomery After Fifth Place Selection In Preseason Coaches Poll

8/13/2025 2:42:00 PM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) released its 2025 Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Poll, with Dalton State earning a tie for fifth place alongside Thomas (Ga.). The Roadrunners continue to build momentum within the league, positioning themselves as a program to watch heading into the fall campaign.

"I've never been too focused on pre-season polls, we're going to fight hard every match regardless," said women's soccer coach Josh Goebel. "What really matters is where we are in the standings at the end of the season."

William Carey was selected as the preseason favorite to win the regular season title, receiving nine first-place votes. UT Southern, last year's regular-season champion, followed in second with two first-place votes. The Crusaders have claimed nine SSAC titles overall, including a dominant stretch of seven consecutive championships prior to 2024.

Dalton State will open regular-season play on Friday, Aug. 22, against Bryan (Tenn.). The Lady Roadrunners are aiming to climb the conference standings and secure a spot in the 2025 SSAC Women's Championship.

The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season on Oct. 26 will advance to postseason play. First-round matches will be hosted by higher seeds at campus sites from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, with semifinal and final rounds held in Montgomery, Ala., on Nov. 6 and 8.
