#11 Dalton State Secures Convincing Win Over Oakwood (Ala.)


HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – #11 Dalton State once again showed their offensive prowess, outperforming Oakwood (Ala.)  with a solid 94-78 win at Ashby Auditorium in Huntsville, Ala. on Tuesday night.  The Roadrunners' strength was on full display from the opening tip as they maintained a sizable lead throughout the contest.

The Roadrunners showcased a cohesive team effort led by standout performances from Matt Compas and Antonio Lewis. Comas was particularly impressive, racking up 25 points, which included crucial early buckets that set the tone for Dalton State. Lewis also made significant contributions, adding 18 points, highlighted by his adept three-point shooting that punctuated both halves of the game.

The Roadrunners not only excelled on offense but also dominated the boards and displayed aggressive defense. Varun Danak led the rebounding efforts with 11 rebounds, a key factor in Dalton State's ability to control the pace and flow of the game. Meanwhile, the defensive work was spearheaded by Qualen Pettus and Kawasiki Ricks, each recording two steals, contributing to several pivotal turnovers.

The game played out with Dalton State leading by as much as 23 points, a testament to their strong strategic play and ability to capitalize on Oakwood's gaps in defense. Notably, the Roadrunners entered halftime with a 17-point lead, which they successfully maintained and extended in the second half.

#11 Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (21-4 overall, 13-2 SSAC) with the win, while Oakwood falls to (3-24 overall, 2-13 HBCUAC) with the loss. DS shot at an impressive 53.3% clip (40-for-75) from the field and went 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. Defensively, they held the Oakwood to 38.1% shooting for the game.

#11-ranked Dalton State will hit the road for their longest road trip of the regular season when they head to New Orleans, La. to take on Loyola (La.). Tip-Off at The Den is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
