#19 Dalton State Falls 2-0 to #10 Life in SSAC Quarterfinals


MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Dalton State's SSAC Championship run came to an end Thursday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala., as the No. 19-ranked Roadrunners dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 10 Life (Ga.) in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Quarterfinals. Despite a strong defensive effort and five saves from goalkeeper Bernardo Manzano, the Roadrunners couldn't overcome an early deficit.
 
FIRST HALF
Life struck first in the 13th minute when defender Stan Van Der Laan converted a well-placed header off a set piece, assisted by Augusto Del Rio and Kaito Nakayama. Dalton State managed three shots in the opening period, including a close-range attempt from Fabio Barbosa in the 37th minute, but Life's keeper Pawel Wolny was up to the task. The Roadrunners faced heavy pressure throughout the half, conceding seven corner kicks and 11 fouls, but kept the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
 
SECOND HALF
Just three minutes into the second half, Life doubled its lead. Midfielder Kaito Nakayama found the back of the net in the 48th minute, finishing a pass from Hugo Carbonell to make it 2-0. Dalton State continued to battle, earning two corner kicks and generating chances from Jesus Huitanda and David Saldana, but couldn't break through. Manzano recorded four second-half saves to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance, but Life's defense held firm to secure the win.
